English Through Computers
Students enrolled in this course will learn English in the context of using computers.

Computers have become a very important part of life. Using computers people are able to access their bank accounts, write letters and resumes, send electronic mail, and much more. In English through Computers students will receive an introduction to computers, develop word processing skills, and learn how to use the Internet.

This course is available to all students who have reached level 2 and over English language skills. The course lasts for 10 weeks and is offered free as part of the student's 510 hour AMEP entitlement.

The course includes the following topics which students will find very useful.

Introduction to Computers

  • Understanding the importance of OH&S
  • Naming the parts of a computer
  • Scandisking and defragging the C Drive
  • Opening, closing, saving, and moving files
  • Using a virus checker to protect a computer

Word Processing

  • Changing the font type and size




  • Using the bold, underline, and italic buttons
  • Using shading in documents
  • Inserting pictures
  • Creating page borders
  • Aligning documents
  • Creating tables
  • Cutting, copying, and pasting within a document
  • Using the tab key
  • Printing a document

Internet Skills

  • Sending an email
  • Setting up an email account
  • Using the back and forward buttons of a browser
  • Searching for a topic on the Internet
