2008MCC donates books to local Korean community1 December 2008
Macquarie Community College is pleased to announce its donation of close to 200 books to Ryde Library Services for use by the local Korean community. An official presentation was made at Eastwood Library, where the books will be housed, on the evening of Monday 1st December.
The event was attended by several important members of the local Korean community including William Seung, President of The Korean Society of Sydney, Kenny Lee, President of the Korean Chamber of Commerce, Eastwood, and Vice President, Samuel Kim, as well as Macquarie Community College Board Member Jihoon Rhee.
Board Chairman Ian Hunt and a number of Board Members also attended, along with City of Ryde Councillor Artin Etmekdjian and Louise Gee, City of Ryde Group Manager Community Life. Deborah Lisson, Manager of Library Services, MC’d the event. Representatives of local Korean newspapers The Korean Daily and The Weekly Korean Life Review were also there to report on the event for their readers. |  |

Macquarie Community College sponsors the 2008 Ryde Aquatic Festival
The Rotary Club of Gladesville acknowledged Macquarie Community College and other sponsors for their support at the Ryde Aquatic Festival 2008 Dinner held on Monday 17 November at Gladesville Sporties. Certificates of Appreciation were presented to the college and other sponsors by Chairman Robert Erskine. Also in attendance were Club President Frank Avati and members of Gladesville Rotary Board including Connie Netterfield and Caroline Chung, and John Booth AM, Editor of The Weekly Times.

Radio 2UE’s Weekend Afternoons with Clive Robertson and Chris Kearns spend some air time with Macquarie Community College cooking tutor Antonella Floyd.
On Sunday afternoon, November 2nd, Clive Robertson and Chris Kearns conducted an interview with our popular cooking tutor, Antonella Floyd, on the Basic Cooking and Italian Cooking courses she teaches at Macquarie Community College. Clive expressed interest in attending a course, if he could fit it into his busy schedule, because he was keen to improve his cooking skills.
Clive not only told his listeners about Antonella’s cooking classes, but explained that Macquarie Community College held classes in a wide range of subjects and had something for everyone from young people to senior citizens.

Veggie Gardening for Seniors
On Thursday 4 September, Macquarie Community College presented a two hour information session at The Epping Club on the numerous health and therapeutic benefits that gardening offers seniors – especially when creating an edible garden. The event was so enthusiastically received by the audience, it is planned to hold another one next year. |  |
Local Business Awards 200827 August 2008
Northern District Times True Local Business Awards
Once again Macquarie Community College was a finalist in this year’s Northern District Times True Local Business Awards. Although the college didn’t win this time, the evening was thoroughly enjoyable. The dinner was held at The Epping Club on Wednesday, August 27th and was attended by more than 300 people.

Adult Learners Week 20081 September 2008
Free Financial Literacy Seminar
On Monday evening, 1st September, Macquarie Business Training Centre, a division of Macquarie Community College, conducted a free information session on financial literacy at The Parsonage, 12 Turner Street, Ryde for Adult Learners Week. Presented by leading financial planning expert Alex Cook, the seminar covered everything from budgeting and saving to superannuation and planning for retirement. |  |
George Papallo OAM 2008July 2008 Last year George Papallo, CEO of Macquarie Community College was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division for service to Adult Education and the Community of Ryde.

Model United Nations Assembly 2008May 30 - June 1
The Rotary Club of Rydalmere and Ryde, District 9680, held its Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA) at James Ruse High School over three days - May 30 & 31 and June 1. Macquarie Community College supplied 150 leather compendiums. George Papallo attended the event to meet with the delegates, shown here wearing outfits to identify the countries they represented and holding the compendiums. |  |
Ryde Eisteddfod 2008July 2008
Macquarie Community College was a proud sponsor of the 2008 Ryde Eisteddfod. As usual, the standard of the performances was extremely high.

Epping Street Fair 200825 May 2008 The annual Street Fair, hosted by The Epping Club in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Epping, was held in Rawson Street Epping on Sunday 25 May. It was a huge success with around 10,000 people attending and an estimated $10,000 raised for the Rotary Youth Drive Awareness Program. The balmy autumn weather was undoubtedly a factor in attracting so many people to the event. Macquarie Community College had a stall which was well patronised by passersby. The college was also a Showbag Sponsor, which ensured that everybody who took home a Street Fair showbag received our catalogue.

Digital Photography Seminar8 April 2008 On Tuesday Macquarie Business Training Centre, Carlingford, held a Digital Photography Seminar at The Epping Club. The two-hour long seminar, held in The Grand Salon, was conducted by two MBTC tutors, who provided professional advice on how digital cameras are used with computers; how photos can be stored and sent via the internet; and how to turn raw footage into movies using digital editing techniques. It was an extremely successful evening and it is planned to hold the event annually. |  |

Macquarie Community College Honours One Of Its Own
Recently, Macquarie Community College’s long-serving Ermington office Course Coordinator, Christine Bennett, received a plaque from college chairman Ian Hunt OAM in grateful recognition of her long and dedicated service to the Macquarie Community College Board. Christine served a total of ten years in a voluntary capacity as Staff Representative between 1994 and 2007. To acknowledge her many years of service, Christine’s name will be recorded on the College Honour Board. Christine is pictured here holding the plaque |  |
Local Member Visits The College 20083 March 2008
The Honorable Maxine McKew MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Early Childhood Education and Child Care, paid a visit to Macquarie Community College and its Training Division, Macquarie Business Training Centre on Monday 3rd March.
Accompanied by the College’s CEO, George Papallo OAM, the new member for Bennelong was first shown through The Parsonage, the heritage-listed building at Ryde, before visiting the main College premises in Carlingford. |  |
