Be Connected - Installing Apps on your Phone or Tablet - Sydney Course

You may have heard the word 'app' used before. It is short for 'application', otherwise known as a computer program. Because your smartphone or tablet is a type of computer, everything it does needs a program, or app. An app is usually represented by a small picture, known as an icon, on the screen of your device.

There are thousands of apps available that allow you to tailor your iPhone, iPad, Android phone or Android Tablet to do exactly what you want it to do.

Many of these apps are free, but some have a charge. This class will show you how to choose and install Apps on your phone or tablet to help you in everyday situations.

Course Outline

In this course we will learn:

• What is an app?
• How much does an app cost?
• How do I choose apps that are suitable for me?
• How to download and install apps for: iPhone, iPad, Android phone, Android tablet

Course Outcome

By the end of the course you will:

• Know where to go to get new apps
• Know how to choose an app
• Know how to remove ads from a free app
• Understand the different methods you can use to pay for apps

What to Bring

You will need to bring one of the following digital devices:

• Apple iPhone
• Apple iPad
• Android Phone
• Android Tablet

Please also bring:

• Notepad
• Pen
• The username and password for your AppleID or Google Account

Prerequisite: Essential

To be able to download Apps in the class you will need to know your account details:

• For Apple iPhones or Apple iPads, this will be your Apple ID
• For Android Phones or Android Tablets, this will be your Google Account

These accounts would have been setup as part of the setup when you first got your phone and tailored it for your personal usage.

Delivery Mode

• Workshop is delivered in a computer room – involving a combination of teacher demonstration and practical work using Windows 10 Personal Computers
