American BBQ Fundamentals (Darcy St. Project) - Sydney Course
In this American BBQ Fundamentals class you will learn all about American Barbeque techniques that will allow you to produce amazing meals that impress your friends and family.
You will learn about a range of different meats and techniques to produce meals ranging from the low and slow smoked meats like Brisket that you can work on all weekend through to some very quick and tasty options that be done on a weeknight.
Learn different rubs and seasoning and prepare various cuts of beef, pork and chicken ready for smoking and cooking. As well as learning the techniques to ensure your slow cooked meats have the intense flavours and tenderness that are so popular with this types of cooking.
You will even get some tips on how you can set up a how BBQ or even get into competition Barbequing – be warned, it can become an obsession!
In the final part of the American BBQ Fundamentals class you will gain the benefits of your hard work and new found skills by sitting down to a BBQ feast with your class mates.

Course Outline
In this course you will learn:
- All about meat – the different cuts for various occasions, tastes and budgets
- How to select or make a range of rubs and seasonings
- Smoking techniques
- Fuels and how to control temperature to cook from the low and slow smoked meats to hot and fast grilling
- The tools you need for various BBQ meats
- How to make sauces and accompaniments to you BBQ meats
Course Outcome
At the end of the class you will be able to:
- Select a range of meats that are appropriate for various types of BBQ’s
- Make and apply rubs and seasonings to a range of meat
- Smoke meats to enhance the flavours
- Understand the temperature and times required for fast and very slow cooked meats
- Make sauces and accompaniments for your BBQ meats
- Impress your friends and family with amazing BBQ meals

Prerequisite: Desirable
Students do not need to have any previous experience.

The class is delivered at Darcy Street Project Epping Café.
Class based: experienced and engaging trainers will take you through the course material face to face.
