Argentine Tango for Beginners – Sydney Course
Come and learn the beautiful and romantic Argentine Tango! It’s a fantastic way to meet new people, have fun and keep fit. It’s also a great way to relax and relieve stress. The Argentine Tango scene in Sydney is vibrant, with many dancers dancing several times a week.
You will learn authentic Argentine Tango, a traditional social dance that originated in Buenos Aires and which has enthusiastic participants worldwide.
Anyone can learn to Tango! It’s fun and can be enjoyed by people of all ages and all fitness levels. The lessons are suitable for anybody, even people who’ve never previously danced a step. Our Dance Instructor, Carlos, strips away the complexity and allows beginners to concentrate on the basics. The basics which can be mastered by most people, then provides the foundation for further progress.
In this course you will learn the 8-count basic step, how to change weight and walk backwards as well as learning different tango rhythms.
Argentine Tango is much more than just a dance, and many beginners quickly find Tango both enjoyable and addictive. It may even change your life!

Course Outline
Students will learn the most important beginner tango steps that will allow them to dance socially:
- Walking (backwards)
- Change of weight
- Ocho (typical Tango step)
- 8-count Basic Step
Students will also learn the different music and dance styles:
- Tango
- Milonga
- Vals
Course Outcome
By the end of the course, you will be able to lead or follow basic Argentine Tango steps. You will have learned something of the history and culture of Argentine Tango and to recognise different tango rhythms. The courses are designed to allow students to develop their confidence in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.
What to bring
- Comfortable clothing,
- Leather-soled shoes are ideal. Ladies can wear high heels, but it is not necessary.
Important Information
Plenty of free parking available in the Lane Cove Golf Club car park. Refreshments and snacks are available for purchase from the Club bar.
Prerequisite
No prerequisites or experience required.
You may come with a partner, although this is not required. If you come alone, we will try to partner you with another student.
Delivery Mode
The class is given in the Lane Cove Golf Club, which has a large, wooden dance floor.
