Prerequisite: Essential

  • There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Prerequisite: Desirable

You will need to have language, literacy and numeracy skills that allow you to read and interpret information and prepare documents.

Study Load

The completion time for the Pathway to Child Care varies according to the educational background and any relevant experience of the student.

The student will be expected to complete approximately 30 hours of study in class and at home per week full time or the equivalent part time. Students with limited or no experience in this industry require face to face training and work placement. They are also required to complete 120 hours of work placement.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Vocational training gives you a nationally recognised qualification that formally verifies your competency in key work skills. Competency is most commonly achieved through learning with our trainers; however, if you believe you are already competent in some of the skills required for your qualification, you can apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). MCC recognises prior skills and knowledge gained through previous studies and work experience. If you would like to apply for RPL, please contact us for an RPL kit. MCC recognises Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) qualifications and statements of attainment from any other RTO or TAFE.

How You Will Be Assessed

  • Assessments will be written and practical.

Work Placement

  • Completion of 120 hours in a Child Care Centre is mandatory as per the training package.
  • Macquarie Community College also offers a simulated learning environment to assist in meeting the unit of competency requirements.
  • Before commencing work placement, you will be required to get a current national criminal record as well as a working with children check to allow you to undergo work placement in a Child Care centre. Macquarie Community College will assist you with this application process.

From the Pathway to Child Care you may go on to study the CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Diploma of Early Childhood Education.
