The Pathway to CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care provides you with an insight into the child care industry. The pathway is made up of units from the CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care course and on successful completion of this course you will be provided with credit transfer for the same units in the Certificate III course.

Course Outline

Course Outcome

At the end of the course you will have gained a snapshot into working life as an early childhood educator. You will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for the units you have completed in CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.

Prerequisite: Essential

Students will undertake an initial assessment of language, literacy and numeracy skills to ensure that this course is suitable for their ability levels.

You will need to have language, literacy and numeracy skills that allow you to read and interpret information and prepare documents at an intermediate or advanced level.

Fees and Government Subsidy Opportunities

Smart and Skilled is a reform of the NSW Vocational Education and Training (VET) system. It’s helping people in NSW get the skills they need to find a job and advance their careers.

Smart and Skilled provides eligible students with:

  • An entitlement to government-subsidised training up to and including Certificate III.
  • Government funding for higher-level courses (Certificate IV and above) in targeted priority areas.

This training is subsidised by the NSW Government, and as a result your fee is determined through Training Services NSW formal eligibility criteria. This criteria will determine your exact fee. Students who meet additional specified criteria, may be eligible for a concession fee or a fee exemption. In claiming the concession or exemption students will be required to supply the required evidence to support the claim in accord with the requirements of Smart and Skilled eligibility.

Students who are eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and/or credit transfer from previous study will have their fee adjusted to reflect this. The amended fee will be confirmed by Training Services NSW and will be reflected in the adjusted Student Fee Statement.

Payment Plans are available through Macquarie Community College for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications. 10% deposit is required upon enrolment followed by an interest-free payment plan. Payment methods: EFTPOS, Direct Deposit, Direct Debit, Visa or MasterCard.

Study Load

The completion time for the Pathway to CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care is according to the educational background and any relevant experience of the student.

The student will be expected to complete approximately 30 hours of study in class and at home per week full time or the equivalent part time. 120 hours of work placement is also required.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is defined in the AQF as follows:

  • Recognition of prior learning is an assessment process that involves assessment of an individual’s relevant prior learning (including formal, informal and non-formal learning) to determine the credit outcomes of an individual application for credit.

This is underpinned by the AQF definition of credit as follows:

  • Credit is the value assigned for the recognition of equivalence in content and learning outcomes between different types of learning and/or qualifications.
  • Credit reduces the amount of learning required to achieve a qualification and may be through credit transfer, articulation, recognition of prior learning or advanced standing.

How You Will Be Assessed

Assessment (including recognition of prior learning) must:

  • Meet the requirements of the relevant training package or accredited course, and
  • Be conducted in accordance with the principles of assessment and the rules of evidence, and
  • Meet workplace and, where relevant, regulatory requirements.

For this course assessment will entail the following:

  • Written assessments and/or verbal assessments
  • Practical simulation and group role play
  • Independent and/or group research and class presentation
  • Work placement practical skills and observations assessment

Work Placement

Students are required to complete 120 hours of work placement.

  • Completion of 120 hours in a regulated Early Childhood Education and Care facility is required where you will work as a volunteer student during work-placement.
  • Before commencing work placement, you will be required to have a current Working With Children Check to allow you to work in a regulated Early Childhood Education and Care facility. Macquarie Community College will assist you with this application process.
  • Suitable work placement clothing is required. i.e., black pants, white polo shirt and leather (or leather like) fully enclosed shoes with non-slip soles.

Macquarie Community College will seek work placement on your behalf and, where possible, an early childhood education and care setting of your choice.
