Creative Writing – Sydney Course

Got the itch to write but not sure where to begin? In this introductory Creative Writing course, the tutor will offer a range of practical exercises allowing students to try various types of writing genres including short stories, memoir and poetry. The basic elements of fiction writing will be covered, including theme, setting, dialogue, characterisation and plot. We will also focus on the art of editing and revision of your creative writing piece so that it is ready for submission. There will be the opportunity for students to share work in a positive, constructive and supportive environment.

Course Outcome

  • At the end of the course, students will have a basic understanding of how to write a short piece of creative writing and how to submit it for publication.

Prerequisite: Desirable

  • This level is for the beginner and assumes no prior knowledge of creative writing. Ability to read and write in English is required.

Delivery Mode

  • The classes will be run in a combination of tutor presentation, individual and group exercises and sharing of writing done in class.
