English Reading and Writing Skills – Beginner – Sydney Course

This course will assist you with basic workplace reading, writing and communication skills specific to your work’s industry.

Join the class for a fun and interactive experience whilst learning key work and skills. This course is suitable for people at the Beginners level and provides foundation training for the workplace as well as everyday English reading and writing skills..

Course Outline

In this English reading and writing - Intermediate course, you will learn how to:

  • Read and respond to basic workplace procedures
  • Write basic workplace formatted texts
  • Use Grammar – Beginners

Course Outcome

By the end of this course, you will be more confident in reading and responding to basic workplace instructions as well as writing basic workplace text.

At the end of the course, you will be issued a Statement of Attainment for the units where competency has been achieved.

Prerequisite: Essential

An appropriate level of language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills are required to enrol in this course. Macquarie Community College may conduct an LLN assessment as part of the pre enrolment process.

The NSW Government’s Adult and Community Education (ACE) Program provides additional support to disadvantaged students who have barriers to studying a full qualification. The ACE Program aims to promote access and increase vocational education and training outcomes for those who experience significant barriers to training and employment.

Credit Transfer and Recognition of Prior Learning

Credit transfer (CT) is defined in the AQF as follows:

  • Credit transfer is a process that provides students with agreed and consistent credit outcomes for components of a qualification based on identified equivalence in content and learning outcomes between matched qualifications.

Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is defined in the AQF as follows:

  • Recognition of prior learning is an assessment process that involves assessment of an individual’s relevant prior learning (including formal, informal and non-formal learning) to determine the credit outcomes of an individual application for credit.

This is underpinned by the AQF definition of credit as follows:

  • Credit is the value assigned for the recognition of equivalence in content and learning outcomes between different types of learning and/or qualifications.
  • Credit reduces the amount of learning required to achieve a qualification and may be through credit transfer, articulation, recognition of prior learning or advanced standing.

How You Will Be Assessed

Assessment (including recognition of prior learning) must:

  • Meet the requirements of the relevant training package or accredited course, and
  • Be conducted in accordance with the principles of assessment and the rules of evidence, and
  • Meet workplace and, where relevant, regulatory requirements.

For this course assessment will entail the following:

  • Assessment methods include written and oral tasks, practical tasks and observation by the assessor. You will be informed when assessments are to take place.

What Can I Study Next?

After completing this study, you can complete FSK10113 Certificate I Access to Vocational Pathways or English Reading and Writing Skills – Intermediate.
