This English for Work and Study – Advanced Plus course (22273VIC Certificate II in General Education for Adults) is designed to help you participate more effectively in the work place or in career training.

The course helps to build on the student’s existing English skills and vocational skills through project based tasks. Students will learn how to work in teams, plan, negotiate and build on their digital skills, in workplace situations that are common in the Australian modern day workforce.

The curriculum used for English for Work and Study – Advanced Plus is 22237VIC Certificate II in General Education for Adults. Course outcomes focus on the skills and knowledge to conduct a project, to investigate pathways and develop, implement and review a learning plan. The language, literacy and numeracy outcomes of this course align to Level 4 of the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF).

It is suitable for individuals who require:

  • a career pathway, career preparation to employment or career training
  • reading, writing, numeracy, oral communication and learning skills at Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) Level 4
  • digital literacy and employability skills
  • a career training and employment plan

Course Outline

In this course you will learn:

  • how to produce a learning plan and portfolio
  • how to implement and review a project
  • how to create and engage with a range of complex texts for learning and workplace purposes
  • how to participate in the workplace
  • how to investigate numerical and statistical information in a range of contexts and use simple mathematical formulae and problem solving techniques in a range of contexts
  • use oral communication skills to facilitate workplace negotiations
  • how to use advanced grammar in oral and written texts

After completing this course, the student may study other courses of interest or further Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) improvement courses to build on their English skills for personal and work purposes.

Course Outcome

At the end of the course, you will be able to :

Upon successful completion of all units you will be issued a nationally accredited certificate in 22273VIC Certificate II in General Education for Adults. This course will give you the skills to be more equipped and confident in the work place, or to participate in further study in preparation for employment.

  • Continuing students should have completed the English for Work and Study – Advanced (FSK20113 – Certificate II in Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways).
  • New students will undertake an initial assessment of language, literacy and numeracy skills to ensure that this course is suitable for their ability levels.

Prerequisite: Desirable

The student should be able to read, write and speak English at a very advanced level.

Smart and Skilled is a reform of the NSW Vocational Education and Training (VET) system. It’s helping people in NSW get the skills they need to find a job and advance their careers.

Smart and Skilled provides eligible students with:

  • An entitlement to government-subsidised training up to and including Certificate III.
  • Government funding for higher-level courses (Certificate IV and above) in targeted priority areas.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is defined in the AQF as follows:

  • Recognition of prior learning is an assessment process that involves assessment of an individual’s relevant prior learning (including formal, informal and non-formal learning) to determine the credit outcomes of an individual application for credit.

This is underpinned by the AQF definition of credit as follows:

  • Credit is the value assigned for the recognition of equivalence in content and learning outcomes between different types of learning and/or qualifications.
  • Credit reduces the amount of learning required to achieve a qualification and may be through credit transfer, articulation, recognition of prior learning or advanced standing.
