Design Skills for Small Business Starter Session – Sydney Course

This Design Skills for Small Business Starter Session is an introductory workshop to give you the basics on how to design and create marketing material.

This course is ideal for those trying to start their own business on a budget. You will learn how to create digital and printed marketing material to help you successfully market yourself online.

It is important to stand out in the digital world, across your website and social media platforms. A successful way to achieve this is by presenting your brand and business consistently by producing professional looking and well-designed marketing materials to promote your service or product.

By the end of the session, you will have produced your own website banners, social media graphics, mood board and brand style tile – all the basics to get you started and look professional online. You will be provided with a folder to document and retain your notes.

Students are encouraged to further develop their design skills by attending the Design Skills for Small Business short course after this starter session.

Course Outline

In this course you will learn:

  • Introduction to design and using online tools – covering core skills required for the relevant outcomes
  • Introduction to Canva – covering core skills required for the relevant outcomes
  • How to create a brand style tile
  • How to create basic mood board
  • How to create website banner
  • How to create social media graphics and templates

Course Outcome

By the completion of this course you will have fundamental design and computer graphics skills to execute basic, social media graphics and brand collateral.

Students are encouraged to further develop their design skills by attending the Design Skills for Small Business short course after this starter session.

Other Information: No textbook required. Comprehensive course notes provided. You should have access to an internet connection so that you can access online resources.

Prerequisite – Essential

  • Please be familiar with operating a computer.
  • Students will be required to subscribe to the relevant design tools to complete this course.
  • Familiarity with design programmes is desirable, but not essential.
