Silver Jewellery for Beginners – Sydney Course
Silver Jewellery for Beginners sets out to teach students the fundamentals of metalwork jewellery making while guiding students on a creative journey. Learn traditional metalwork jewellery making techniques including soldering while exploring the properties of copper, brass and Sterling silver to make pendants and soldered rings of your own design.
No previous experience necessary.

Course Outline
During this 6 week course students will:
*learn fundamental jewellery making skills including saw-piercing, filing, drilling, soldering, shaping and forming, annealing, and texturing
- make a saw-pierced pendant from brass or copper
- make 2 rings from sterling silver with soldered joins and decoration
- if time permits, and item of your own choice such as earrings or cufflinks
- gain experience and confidence using jewellery making tools
*practice safe workshop habits, learning how to use tools and chemicals
Course Outcome
By the end of Silver Jewellery for Beginners 6 week course students will have made at least 1 pendant and 2 rings from copper, brass and Sterling silver, practiced high temperature flame soldering, sawing and manipulating metals, as well as filing, drilling, texturing and finishing and polishing.
What to bring
Please bring with you during classy:
- Reading/close work glasses if needed
- apron
- finepoint permanent marker eg Sharpie
- hair tie if you have long hair
*$65 materials fee to tutor

Prerequisite
This level is for the complete beginner and assumes no prior knowledge of silver jewellery.
Delivery Mode
The class will be delivered in a classroom set up using professional jewellery making tools and equipment. Information will be delivered by discussion, demonstration and student action. Hard copy notes also supplied.
