Needlecraft/Open Craft Classes Sydney

Have you ever wanted to learn new skills or finish off an old project? With this course you can learn all about smocking, heirloom sewing and most forms of embroidery. This course will cover shadow work, stump work and canvas work, crewel work, hardanger, drawn and pulled thread, wool embroidery, knitting, crocheting, candle wicking, patchwork and quilting, and garment construction. You will be provided with handouts as required.

Course Outline

In this course you will learn:

  • Hand embroidery for various techniques, including but not limited to whitework, wool embroidery, hardanger, crewel work, pulled and drawn thread, shisha, tambour work, embellishments including beading, etc
  • Smocking
  • Heirloom sewing
  • Patchwork and quilting Knitting
  • Crochet

Course Outcome

  • By the end of the course you will have learnt specific skills, gained knowledge and produced a sample or product in your chosen technique.

What to Bring

Each week you will need to bring:

  • Pen and notebook
  • Pencil
  • Embroidery scissors
  • Pins
  • Tape measure
  • Thimble
  • Embroidery hoop (8")
  • Selection of hand sewing needles
  • Selection of embroidery threads
  • 30cm piece of plain cotton material for practice stitches

Prerequisite: Desirable

  • You do not need to have any prior knowledge of your chosen technique. However, if you are enrolling in this course for the first time, please contact Christine at christine.bennett@macquarie.nsw.edu.au.

Delivery Mode

  • This course will involve a combination of teacher demonstrations and student practical work. You will complete individual projects with guidance from the tutor.
