Spoken and Written English – Advanced Plus – Sydney Course

If you are looking to improve your spoken and written English for study or work purposes, then this course is for you.

Spoken and Written English – Advanced Plus is a short introductory course to support you in improving your workplace English skills in preparation for employment or to study a vocational course. This course builds on skills obtained in Certificate II on Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways (FSK20113) .

You will learn advanced level English grammar and pronunciation, improve on your written skills, computer and online security knoweldge, as well as various numeracy skills to help you in the workplace or study environment.

The course comprises a selection of units of work from the accredited FSK-Foundation Skills Training Package and Spoken and Written English qualifications. Units are selected to meet the reading, writing, oral communication and numeracy requirements of the learners.

Macquarie Community College also operates from a range of venues across North and Western Sydney. We have campuses in Carlingford, Chatswood, Mt Druitt, Richmond and many more.

Course Outline

In this course you will learn how to:

Course Outcome

By the end of this course, you will be more comfortable with having a conversation in English and writing in English. You have will gain intermediate level numeracy skills and be able to participate in a work or study environment. Upon successful completion of this course you will be eligible for a Statement of Attainment in Certificate II on Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways (FSK20113) and CSWE III.

Students will undertake an initial assessment of language, literacy and numeracy skills to ensure that this course is suitable for their ability levels.

Fees and Government Subsidy Opportunities

Smart and Skilled is a reform of the NSW Vocational Education and Training (VET) system. It’s helping people in NSW get the skills they need to find a job and advance their careers.

Smart and Skilled provides eligible students with:

  • An entitlement to government-subsidised training up to and including Certificate III.
  • Government funding for higher-level courses (Certificate IV and above) in targeted priority areas.

This training is subsidised by the NSW Government, and as a result your fee is determined through Training Services NSW formal eligibility criteria. This criteria will determine your exact fee. Students who meet additional specified criteria, may be eligible for a concession fee or a fee exemption. In claiming the concession or exemption students will be required to supply the required evidence to support the claim in accord with the requirements of Smart and Skilled eligibility.

Students who are eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and/or credit transfer from previous study will have their fee adjusted to reflect this. The amended fee will be confirmed by Training Services NSW and will be reflected in the adjusted Student Fee Statement.

Payment Plans are available through Macquarie Community College for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications. 10% deposit is required upon enrolment followed by an interest-free payment plan. Payment methods: EFTPOS, Direct Deposit, Direct Debit, Visa or MasterCard.

Study Load

This course will be run over a period of 8-10 weeks which will include both classroom based sessions and home study.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is defined in the AQF as follows:

  • Recognition of prior learning is an assessment process that involves assessment of an individual’s relevant prior learning (including formal, informal and non-formal learning) to determine the credit outcomes of an individual application for credit.

This is underpinned by the AQF definition of credit as follows:

  • Credit is the value assigned for the recognition of equivalence in content and learning outcomes between different types of learning and/or qualifications.
  • Credit reduces the amount of learning required to achieve a qualification and may be through credit transfer, articulation, recognition of prior learning or advanced standing.

How You Will Be Assessed

Assessment (including recognition of prior learning) must:

  • Meet the requirements of the relevant training package or accredited course, and
  • Be conducted in accordance with the principles of assessment and the rules of evidence, and
  • Meet workplace and, where relevant, regulatory requirements.

For this course assessment will include written and oral tasks, practical tasks and observation by the assessor. You will be informed when assessments are to take place.
