If you listen to any form of music at all then you need to be part of this course! Digital music is more convenient, more portable and more accessible than any other previous music delivery format. It is here to stay. It is music in the digital world. If you might say, “I love to listen to music but don't understand all these new options - What's ripping and streaming?” Then you need to come along!

Course Outline

We will discuss:

  • How recorded music has evolved.
  • What is digital music and why is it so portable and accessible
  • Converting non-digital formats to digital
  • We will look at three digital processes, to answer four questions:

1. What is it?
2. Why would I bother?
3. What options are there?
4. How do I do it?

    • Ripping
    • Podcasting
    • Streaming

Course Outcome

This workshop covers the basic steps you need know to understand digital music. After the workshop, you will know how to:

  • Copy CDs to a digital format
  • Choose podcasts and listen to them
  • Choose a digital streaming service to listen to music

What to Bring

  • Notepad and pen
  • An internet-connected laptop or desktop computer; either your own or supplied by the workshop organisers. You may need to share a computer with others in the workshop

Prerequisite: Desirable

  • No previous knowledge required
