Tech Savvy Seniors – Introduction to Skype – Sydney Course

You may have heard of Skype: It is a piece of software that allows you to talk to someone else anywhere in the world for free using the internet. If you both have a camera (known as a webcam) on your PCs then you can talk and see the other person.
Maybe you are:
Planning to go on holiday and what to keep in contact will people back home or
You have family or friends that you would like to talk to and see them but you are not able to visit

Then if you have a PC or any device then this workshop will show you how you can keep in contact.

What to Bring

  • Notepad and pen
  • An internet-connected computer with a camera (webcam) - is supplied by the workshop organisers. You may need to share a computer with others in the workshop.
  • To use Skype, you will need a Skype account, if you don’t have one, we will to create one in the workshop.

Course Outline

You will learn:

  • On which devices will Skype work
  • How to install Skype software
  • How to setup a Skype Account
  • How to add contacts to your Skype account
  • How to make and receive a Skype calls on a PC
  • How it is possible to use Skype to call any landline or mobile phone in the world
  • What the relative merits and demerits are between Skype and other similar products

Course Outcome

After this workshop, you should know how to install Skype software and be able to use Skype to talk other people who also have the software installed on their device.

  • No previous knowledge is required

Workshop is delivered in a computer room – involving a combination of teacher demonstration and practical work.
