Making a Terrarium – Sydney Course

Would you like to learn how to make a garden inside your home or office? A terrarium is a fantastic way to have greenery inside your home or work space. It won’t take up much space and requires very little maintenance. Terrariums are very easy to care for – you don’t even have to have a green thumb! You can have fun building a gorgeous small garden to enjoy, or you may want to give the terrarium as a unique gift to someone.

This terrarium workshop will provide you with step by step guidance on how to make your very own terrarium. You will learn to choose the best plants for your terrarium, design a landscape, build your own terrarium and how to care for it. By the end of the workshop, you will have come away with your very own terrarium to take home and care for.

Course Outline

In this course you will learn:

  • What plants are best for a terrarium?
  • What items of landscape to put in your terrarium?
  • Building a terrarium from the bottom to the top
  • Care and maintenance

Course Outcome

By the end of the course you will know:

  • How to combine creativity with building a terrarium
  • Elements of shape, texture and colours coordination
  • How to care for your terrarium
  • How to maintain your terrarium

  • Pen and paper
  • Secateurs or florist scissors
  • Gloves
  • Your teacher will have florist scissors to purchase for $5 each


This level is for the complete beginner and assumes no prior knowledge of terrariums.
