Wine Appreciation – Sydney Course

Delve into the art of wine appreciation! Iin this course for beginners, you can learn and taste your way through an intimate appreciation of wine.

During the course, you will experience 3 × 2 hour wine tasting sessions that will awaken your senses and help you understand how to assess and appreciate wine (plus have alot of fun doing it!). You will learn about different varieties of white and red wine, what each wine should taste like, its history and style.

Expand on your knowledge gained from the Introduction to Wine Appreciation. You will learn about quality and price, wine making methods, white and red grape aromas and more!

Course Outline

In this course you will learn:

  • Quality and Price – basic wine making and viticultural techniques and how they affect the price and quality of wine
  • White Wines – White grape aromas, flavours and structure in relation to white wine-making methods.
  • Red Wines – Red grape aromas, flavours and structure

Course Outcome

At the end of the course you will:
  • Have more confidence when confronted with the wine list
  • Gain more wine knowledge that you can use when next making a wine buying decision
  • Impress your friends and clients with your new wine knowledge
  • Find out what you like and why, so you can tell others when buying or sharing wines
  • Learn how to understand and use the professional 20 point judging system
  • Conduct sensory evaluation of wines so you will literally see, smell and taste more in each wine
  • Match your favourite dishes to a top drop
  • Get an insight into your favourite wine grape varietals and styles

Important Information


Participants must complete the Introduction to Wine Appreciation course first.

Delivery Mode

This course is held in a classroom where you will learn about wine from an expert presenter, try wines, make notes using a set structure and rate the wine out of 20.

You will then be encouraged to share your thoughts and opinions (don’t worry – you don’t have to if you would prefer not to!)

This course is designed as a way to introduce a method of tasting wines that hopefully unlocks confidence and brings more enjoyment of wine for each attendee.
