Course Description

Introduction to Chinese Mandarin is an introductory course for absolute beginners wanting to learn the official Chinese spoken language, Mandarin.

Course Outline

In this course your will learn:

  • Chinese pronunciation & the different intonation
  • Chinese Pinyin and its rules (Chinese Phonetic Alphabet)
  • Greetings and other useful expressions eg. Asking for names of others, thank you and good-bye, etc.
  • Self-introduction and introducing people
  • Nationalities
  • Talk about families
  • Numbers
  • Dates and Time
  • Hobbies and interests

Course Outcome

At the end of the course, you will be able to use basic conversation in Mandarin. You will also develop confidence in pronouncing and distinguish the 5 different tones in Mandarin.

Important Information

This course may not be suitable for learners with Chinese background with knowledge or language competency in a different Chinese dialect, eg. Cantonese. If in doubt, please contact tutor for an assessment prior to session.

Prerequisite: Desirable

This level is for the complete beginner and assumes no prior knowledge of the language.

Delivery Mode

The classroom-based course involves group discussion and presentation, with a mix of partner work, activities and games.
