Course Overview

If you have ever wanted to learn to decorate a cake like the professionals, then this course is for you! This Essential Cake Decorating Techniques course will have you decorating cakes that are sure to impress your family and friends!

Whether you are a complete beginner or have dabbled in some cake decorating and are looking to fine tune your techniques, you will gain the cake decorating skills you need in this course to make professional looking cakes for your next birthday party or get together.

Throughout the course you will learn how to create roses using fondant icing, piping techniques with royal icing, cake covering with ganache and fondant, farmyard animal figurines using fondant, cupcake decorating techniques using fondant and buttercream.

What you will learn

Course outline

In this course, you will learn the following subjects:

  • Roses – using fondant icing
  • Foundation piping Skills – using royal icing
  • Formal cake covering – using chocolate ganache and fondant icing
  • Farmyard animal figurines – using fondant icing
  • Cupcake Decorating – using fondant and buttercream icing
  • Semi-naked cake – using buttercream
  • Cupcake bouquet – using buttercream

Course outcome

On completion of this course, you will have:

  • Gained the foundation skills for cake decorating
  • Gained more confidence in cake decorating
  • An understanding of the various tools, equipment and icings that are used in cake decorating

What you need to know

What you need to provide

Please bring to your first class:

  • A pen and notepad
  • An apron
  • Small container of cornflour
  • Chux cloth
  • 1 rubber band
  • Empty egg carton
  • 1 x cutting mat/board
  • Small sharp knife
  • $10 for supplies provided by the tutor
  • Comprehensive course notes will be provided
  • A complimentary $85 Beginner’s Kit is included in the course price. This kit provides most of the essential items required throughout the course.
  • Additional material and equipment required for the course will be discussed at the first lesson.

Anyone 18 years or older may enrol into our non-accredited short courses by: • choosing the course you are interested in and; • finding a day and time that is suitable.

Step 2

After selecting your course and class. click ‘’Enrol Now’’ and enter your details. • You will be asked to verify your email through a secure link sent to your email address. • Once you have returned to the enrolment page you will proceed through the secure checkout and payment process. • Alternatively, you can call customer service on 1300 845 888. Step 3

Once your enrolment has been processed, you will receive the following emails: • Enrolment confirmation: you will receive this immediately after your enrolment has been processed. Please check and read your Terms and conditions. • Tax invoice: the payer of your enrolment will receive this immediately after your enrolment has been processed. • Course reminder: you will receive a reminder the day prior to your class commencement. • Zoom link (for remote zoom classes only): you will receive a Zoom link and password the day prior to class commencement.
