What you will learn

Course outline

In this course you will learn:

  • How the guitar is laid out
  • Open chords
  • Bar chords
  • Basic music reading – rhythmic notation, pitch notation
  • Strumming and picking patterns
  • Combining rhythmic reading and strumming/picking patterns to create a chordal accompaniment

Course outcome

It is intended that by the end of the course you will be able to play chordal accompaniment to several song excerpts using a combination of open chords, bar chords and simple strumming patterns. You will have the knowledge to apply these skills into a variety of musical settings.

Other information

  • Students are welcome to repeat this level if they wish to spend more time on the concepts presented. If this occurs alternate examples and exercises will be provided. Course content is adjusted to suit each class.
  • Material will be presented using a combination of written and played musical examples. Students will play individually and in small groups. Feedback will be provided individually and to the group as a whole.

  • Find a day and time that suits your schedule.

Note: Enrolment is open to anyone 18 years or older.

Step 2 - Enrol and Verify

  • Click ‘Enrol Now’ after selecting your course and schedule.
  • Enter your details on the enrolment page.
  • Verify your email through a secure link sent to your email address.
  • Complete the secure checkout and payment process.
