Introduction to Meditation – Sydney course

Embark on a journey of self discovery in this practical Introduction to Meditation course for people of all levels. Counter the effects of modern day stress on your health and wellbeing by learning deep body relaxation techniques, a proven method for helping to counter stress related diseases and one of the antidotes to the Flight-or-Fight response.

In this Meditation course, you will engage in practical versions of Zen meditation which fit into your lifestyle, rather than the other way around – making it an achievable goal. Guided creative visualisations will empower you to become the master of your own thoughts and experience more optimism in your daily life.

This meditation course is a practice which is not affiliated with any particular religion but is simply a method of learning the art of being in the present moment. You will learn relaxation and mindfulness techniques to improve your ability to deal with stress and anxiety, allowing a state of wholeness to create a more fulfilling, focused and creative way of life.

Course Outline

In this Meditation Course, you will learn about:

  • Mindfulness – becoming master of your thoughts through acting as the observer of your mind
  • The cause and effects of stress and gain an understanding of the Flight-or-Fight Response
  • Basic breathing techniques
  • Meditation for muscles relaxation and anxiety
  • Guided visualisation meditation
  • How to incorporate the practice of Zen Meditation into your daily life
  • Ways of developing your own affirmations and mantras
  • The various styles of meditation with the aim of exploring the best style for you
  • The power of gratitude

Course Outcome

  • At the end of this course, participants should feel comfortable and confident about practicing meditation at home or in various situations. Through regular practice, students should notice an improvement in the quality of their daily lives.

What to Bring

Please bring a:

  • Pen and notepad
  • Comfortable clothing
  • A yoga mat or meditation cushion. This is not necessary for the first lesson as participants will have the choice of sitting on chairs or lying down
  • An open mind and the desire to have fun!

Prerequisite: Desirable

  • This course is designed for people of all levels, whether you are on day one of your meditation journey, or are an experienced meditator in any particular style.

Delivery Mode

  • The class is delivered in a classroom and participants can choose to sit on a chair, lie down or utilise a meditation cushion – whatever they feel most comfortable doing.
