The Making of a Memoir – Sydney Course

Everyone has a story to tell! Through targeted writing prompts, you will be guided to start recording your life story, to create a lasting memoir to share with your family and loved ones.

In this course you will learn how to edit your own writing and discover how to structure a series of writing pieces into an engaging narrative. The course will be taught in an engaging way where you will be able to share your stories as well as listen to the stories of others.

By the end of this course students will have written and shared a draft memoir based on real life events.

Remote learning for this course is at scheduled class times and sessions. It could include:

  • Livestream video classes online;
  • Interaction with your tutor and other students during livestream video sessions;
  • Group exercises, group discussion, reading dialogue, written exercises, and games to practice new learned skills in an enjoyable way.

Please note: You will need access to the internet and a smartphone, tablet, computer or laptop in order to participate in the livestream video classes.

Face-to-face classes may resume at one of our campuses before the end of the course, depending on discussions between the tutor and students as well as the Government’s recommendations at the time, including appropriate social distancing measures, hand washing and other hygiene protocols.

Course Outline

Students will:

  • Explore memories through a variety of guided writing exercises
  • Share their written stories with the group
  • Learn how to edit their writing
  • Discover structure a series of writing pieces into an engaging narrative

Course Outcome

At the end of this course, students will write and share a draft memoir based on real life events.

Prerequisite

Proficiency in written English is essential.
Suitable for people who have completed an introductory creative writing course, or who are first-time writers.
