Parents Struggling with Teenagers - Sydney Course

Feeling isolated and overwhelmed in your parent-teen relationship? When it comes to relating with teens things often don’t go as we planned, and as parents we can feel at a loss for what to do - especially when our teenager faces multiple challenges. This course focuses on re-wiring parent teen relationships beginning with the courage to take a compassionate look at our own journey as parents.

This research based, interactive course has helped many parents to regain a positive perspective, relieve their parenting stress and to enjoy relating to their teenager again.

Course Outline

This course provides parents with tools to:

  •  Understand the latest research on adolescent brain and behavioural development.
  •  Turn away from exhaustion and stress and towards recognising their own unmet needs and prioritising self-care.
  •  Learn a framework of strategies for relating based on Positive Psychology and strengths - based parenting.
  •  Set boundaries and de-escalate charged situations.
  •  Communicate without giving your power away.
  •  Receive the benefit of guided mindful relaxation techniques that leave you feeling calm and centred.

Course Outcome

Parents will learn:

  • The science behind teenage behaviour.
  • A way of understanding the journey through transition for both parents and teens.
  • How to better manage stressful interactions and self-regulate emotions.
  • Why putting your own oxygen mask on first is a necessary priority.
  • Communication styles that a teen is more likely to respond to positively.

Prerequisite

This course is suitable for all levels and assumes no prior knowledge. Not intended to replace medical or psychiatric evaluation.
