Discover the secrets to understanding and solving dog problems. Designed for first-time dog owners and those facing canine issues, this course equips you with the knowledge to connect with your dog and resolve any challenges. No prior experience needed!

This course is designed to help you understand and work with your dog, and achieve the companion dog of your dreams! Understanding the different responsibilities of owning a dog, how to care for your dog and understand their behaviour and how that behaviour may have commenced. We will look at common dog issues and strategies for change and improvement. Sometimes the smallest of actions can make big differences.   

The course will cover important information all dog owners need to be aware of:  

  • The Companion Animal Act and the Law
  • Care of your dog
  • How dogs learn
  • Positive reinforcement
  • Recognising the dog’s body language
  • Meeting your dogs physical and mental needs to better connect with your dog
  • Problem solving -jumping, separation anxiety, resource guarding to name a few
  • Managing children and visitors to the home
  • Dog activities

Delve into the fascinating world of dog behavior will help you gain a deep understanding of responsible dog care, including meeting your dog's physical and mental needs to enhance the bond between you and your canine companion.

Course Outline

By the end of this workshop you will have learnt about 

  • Dog care
  • Your dog’s body language
  • Understand why difficult behaviour patterns occur
  • Developing positive dog training techniques
  • Problem solving common dog behaviour such as toilet training, biting, jumping, separation anxiety, resource guarding
  • How to manage children and visitors in the home
  • The law and dog ownership
  • Case studies

Course Outcome

At the end of the course you will feel confident and better equipped to manage your dog’s needs, care and behaviour.

You will also have information on dog activities to enrich your dog’s life.

Prerequisite:

  • Either have a dog or have owned a dog prior with an interest in learning more about dogs in general
  • Completion of the Pre-Questionnaire provided by the college if possible before the commencement of the workshop
