Course outline
In this English for Child Care course, you will learn how to:
- Read and respond to various text types that are required in the certificate III qualification
- Write routine workplace texts
- Read and write texts for multiple purposes in the childcare sector
- Participate in spoken interactions
- Undertake a simple investigation of health and wellbeing in the childcare environment
- Understand diversity in the workplace
Course outcome
At the end of the course, you will be able to read, write and speak proficiently for the purposes of studying in the CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.
You will be issued a Statement of Attainment for the units where competency has been achieved.
What is involved
Time commitment
This course will include both classroom based sessions and home study. 15-20 hours a week.
Assessment
Assessment (including recognition of prior learning) must:
- Meet the requirements of the relevant unit of competency, training package or accredited course, and
- Be conducted in accordance with the principles of assessment and the rules of evidence, and
- meet workplace and, where relevant, regulatory requirements.
For this course assessment will entail the following:

- Writing
- Speaking
- Researching and projects

Entry requirements
An appropriate level of language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills is required to enrol in this course. Macquarie Community College may conduct a pre training assessment (PTA) as part of the pre enrolment process.

- Notepad and pen
For remote learning online Zoom classes students will need a stable internet connection on computer or laptop to participate.

The Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Program, funded by the Australian Government, provides support and training in language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills you need to prepare for work and further study.

Students will need to supply the required evidence in accord with the requirements of the SEE Program eligibility.
