Course Overview
If you need to improve your spoken and written English for study or work purposes, then this course is for you.
The SEE Program – Basic English course will support you in improving your English skills to help you boost your confidence and ability to engage in your community, prepare for employment or to study a vocational course.
You will learn the basic skills to improve your English reading, writing, and speaking as well as your numeracy skills. You can also learn digital and employability skills.
The course comprises of a selection of units of work from the accredited Foundation Skills Training Package. Units are selected to meet the reading, writing, oral communication and numeracy requirements of the learners.

What you will learn
Course outline
In this course you will learn how to:
- Identify work related learning goals
- Read basic workplace information
- Write basic workplace information and informal texts
- Engage in spoken interactions at work
- Use digital technology for basic workplace tasks
- Undertake a range of numeracy tasks for the workplace
Course outcome
By the end of this course, you will be more comfortable with having a conversation in English and learn some skills for reading and writing in English. You have will gained some numeracy skills and begin to develop skills to assist you to be able to participate in a work or study environment.
At the end of the course, you will be issued a Statement of Attainment for the units where competency has been achieved.
What is involved
Time commitment
Students are eligible to participate in the SEE program for up to 2 years.Students are required to attend face-face classes that are conducted from 9:00am-2:30pm on scheduled days.
In addition to this some study booklets are provided to complete between classes to reinforce the learning.
Assessment
Assessment (including recognition of prior learning) must:
- Meet the requirements of the relevant training package or accredited course, and
- Be conducted in accordance with the principles of assessment and the rules of evidence, and
- Meet workplace and, where relevant, regulatory requirements.
For this course assessment will entail the following:
Assessment methods include written and oral tasks, practical tasks and observation by the assessor. You will be informed when assessments are to take place.
Upon successful completion of this program you will be issued with a Statement of Attainment.
What you need to know
Entry requirements
An appropriate level of language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills is required to enrol in this course. Macquarie Community College will conduct a pre-training (PTA) assessment as part of the pre enrolment process.
An individualised learning plan will be developed for each student that outlines learning priorities that are suitable for their ability.
You will be required to complete a short survey as a part of the enrolment process.

The Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Program, funded by the Australian Government, provides support and training in language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills you need to prepare for work and further study.
*Eligibility criteria apply. The SEE Program is funded by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations and is free to all eligible participants.
Students will need to supply the required evidence in accord with the requirements of the SEE Program eligibility.
