You will learn key techniques such as perspective, shading, and creating surface textures using pencil, charcoal, and ink. You’ll practice drawing various subjects including flowers, landscapes, buildings, pets, and people.

What you will learn

Course outline

This course will involve a combination of tutor demonstrations and student practical work. Step by step guidance from tutor as students work on projects. Homework given each lesson.

Topics include:
  • Introduction to materials and equipment
  • Elements and principles of art
  • Draftsmanship – pencil, charcoal, ink
  • Tone and shading
  • Surface textures
  • Perspective
  • Subjects – still life, buildings, landscapes, plants, trees and flowers, pets and people.

Course outcome

By the end of the course you will understand the principles of observational drawing and the use of drawing media to produce satisfying drawings.

What you need to know

Entry requirements

This level is for the complete beginner and assumes no prior knowledge.

What you need to provide

  • First lesson – Sketch book of A3 Cartridge paper, 3B & 6B graphite pencils.
  • List of other materials provided at first lesson.
  • Drawing boards & information sheets provided.

  • Select the non-accredited short course you are interested in.
  • Find a day and time that suits your schedule.

Note: Enrolment is open to anyone 18 years or older.

Step 2 - Enrol and Verify

  • Click ‘Enrol Now’ after selecting your course and schedule.
  • Enter your details on the enrolment page.
  • Verify your email through a secure link sent to your email address.
  • Complete the secure checkout and payment process.

Step 3 - Receive Your Enrolment Details
