Course Overview

If you’re looking to improve your calligraphy skills or need a refresher, this course is for you! Aimed at calligraphy students who have completed a Calligraphy Introductory course or have some prior experience, this course will allow you to extend your calligraphic knowledge by working on projects and scripts of your own choice.

As well as a revision of pen skills, this calligraphy course explores advanced script writing techniques, nib and line relationships and layout/design. Our expert tutor will help you formulate ideas for your calligraphy project.

By the end of the course, you’ll have boosted your calligraphy skills and successfully completed your chosen project, feeling more confident in creating beautiful pieces.

What you will learn

Course outline

This course involves a combination of demonstration and practical work.

  • Discussion of possible projects, scripts and relevant historical background;
  • Revision of pen skills;
  • Advanced script writing techniques;
  • Formulation of ideas for projects;
  • Script writing practice;
  • Creation of a variety of relevant layouts and designs;
  • Nib and line relationship exploration and interlinear spacing;
  • Decoration of letterforms, use of colour and flourishing, where applicable;
  • Completion of a calligraphy project of your own choice.

Course outcome

By the end of the course you will be able to apply more advanced techniques to a calligraphy script and use them, together with a suitable layout design, to produce a finished product.

Entry requirements

This level is for students who have completed an introductory course in calligraphy. It is also suitable for students who have not done calligraphy for some time and are looking for a refresher course.

  • Basic calligraphy equipment
  • Any extra equipment needed for particular projects will be discussed during the term

How to Enrol

Step 1 - Choose Your Course

  • Select the non-accredited short course you are interested in.
  • Find a day and time that suits your schedule.

Note: Enrolment is open to anyone 18 years or older.

Step 2 - Enrol and Verify

  • Click ‘Enrol Now’ after selecting your course and schedule.
  • Enter your details on the enrolment page.
  • Verify your email through a secure link sent to your email address.
  • Complete the secure checkout and payment process.

Step 3 - Receive Your Enrolment Details

  • For Online Zoom classes, a Zoom link and password will be emailed the day before class. Use the same link and password for subsequent sessions if applicable.
