Course Overview
Explore the fascinating world of gemstones through mythology, cultural history and mindful wellbeing practices in this beginner-friendly short course for adults. Learn how gemstones have been used across ancient traditions for personal reflection, storytelling and symbolic meaning.
Through guided activities and practical exercises, participants will explore gemstone lore, mindfulness techniques and the cultural significance of gemstones from Ancient Egypt to the present day.
This immersive four-week course combines ancient folklore with modern mindfulness, exploring the stories and traditions connected to 10–12 essential gemstones, including Amethyst, Lapis Lazuli and Turquoise.
Participants will also engage in personal discovery activities using the Four Elements (Earth, Air, Fire and Water) and traditional gemstone practices inspired by ancient cultures, including Vedic traditions.
The course includes practical techniques for cleansing and energising gemstones, as well as guidance on selecting stones for mindfulness, reflection and personal intention-setting. Participants will also have the opportunity to create a custom gemstone bracelet using optional materials available during the course.
No previous experience or knowledge of gemstones is required.

Course Outline
Week 1: Gemstone History & Cultural Traditions
Explore the cultural history and mythology of some of the world’s most recognised gemstones, including Amethyst, Lapis Lazuli and Turquoise. Learn how ancient civilisations used gemstones for symbolism, storytelling and personal meaning, and why these traditions continue to influence modern wellbeing practices.
Week 2: Personal Discovery & the Four Elements
Explore traditional gemstone practices connected to the Four Elements (Earth, Air, Fire and Water) and ancient Vedic traditions. Using guided activities, participants will identify gemstones linked to personal reflection, mindfulness and individual symbolism.
Week 3: Cleansing & Mindfulness Practices
Learn traditional techniques for cleansing and caring for gemstones using natural elements and mindfulness practices. Participants will explore ways gemstones have been used historically to support intention-setting, reflection and wellbeing rituals.
Week 4: Gemstone Pairing & Bracelet Design
Explore how different gemstones have traditionally been combined for symbolic meaning and personal intention-setting. Compare polished and raw stones while selecting gemstones to create a personalised mindful bracelet kit.
Course Outcome
- Recognise and describe at least 10 primary gemstones, including their physical properties and traditional cultural significance
- Compare folklore and legends across Vedic, Egyptian, and Greco-Roman traditions
- Identify a personal “Power Stone” using Vedic Moon Signs and the Four Elements
- Apply traditional cleansing and energising techniques using natural elements
- Design a personalised gemstone selection using compatibility and intention-setting principles, with an option to create a wearable mindfulness piece
- Develop greater awareness of mindfulness, personal reflection and wellbeing practices through creative exploration with gemstones
