Course Overview

Learn how to stay connected with family and friends using social media and video calls in this practical, beginner-friendly Tech Savvy Seniors workshop.

Social media and video-calling tools can make it easier to keep in touch with loved ones, share important moments and communicate face to face even when people live far away or cannot meet in person.

In this hands-on course, you will learn how video calls work, what you need to make a call and how to use common video-calling platforms. You will also explore popular social media platforms and learn the basic terms and features used when viewing posts, sharing updates and interacting with others online.

The workshop also introduces safe and responsible digital habits so you can feel more confident using social media and video-calling tools in everyday life.

This course is designed to be relaxed, supportive and practical, with step-by-step guidance and opportunities to ask questions as you build your digital confidence.

  • How to use video-calling platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, WhatsApp, FaceTime and Facebook Messenger
  • How social media can help you stay connected with family, friends and communities
  • How to use social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and TikTok
  • Common social media terms including News Feed, Post, Like, Comment and Share
  • How to browse a social media feed and react to a post
  • Safe and responsible habits when using social media

Course outcome

By the end of this workshop, participants will understand the basic tools and features needed to make a video call and will feel more confident choosing and using a suitable video-calling platform.

You will be able to make a video call, check and use your camera and microphone, browse a social media feed and interact with posts using common features such as likes, comments and shares.

Participants will also have a better understanding of how social media and video calls can be used safely and responsibly to stay connected with family, friends and communities.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. It is designed for beginners who want to build confidence using social media and video-calling tools.

You are welcome to bring your own smart device, including a laptop, Apple iPhone, Apple iPad, Android phone or tablet.

The course is designed to provide a relaxed and supportive learning environment, with no exams and plenty of opportunities to ask questions.

Step 3 - Receive Your Enrolment Details
