Today’s smartphones and tablets make it easy to capture special moments—from family gatherings and holidays to everyday memories. With built-in camera apps, your device allows you to take photos, record videos, and store them all in one place, ready to view and share.

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to confidently use your device’s camera to take photos and videos, organise your collection, and share them with friends and family. The session is designed to be simple, supportive, and practical, helping you build skills step by step in a relaxed environment.

Whether you’re capturing grandchildren, travel memories, or everyday moments, this course will help you feel more comfortable using your device to take, manage, and share photos and videos.

  • How to open and use the camera app on your smartphone or tablet
  • How to take photos and record videos using different modes
  • Simple techniques for taking better photos, including framing, lighting, and focus
  • How to view your photos and videos in your gallery or Photos app
  • How to organise your photos into albums to keep them easy to find
  • How to delete unwanted photos and free up space on your device
  • Basic editing tools such as cropping, rotating, and improving brightness
  • How to trim short videos and make simple improvements
  • How to share photos and videos using messages or email
  • Understanding privacy and safety when sharing images

A smartphone or tablet camera can:

  • Take photos and record videos
  • Store images in a gallery or photo library
  • Organise photos automatically by date, people, or location
  • Edit photos with simple tools such as crop, rotate, and filters

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Participants should feel comfortable using basic functions on their device, such as unlocking the screen and opening apps.

Prerequisite: Essential

Participants must be aged 60+. Tech Savvy Seniors is part of the NSW Ageing Strategy and is funded in partnership between the NSW Government and Telstra.

  • Notepad and pen
  • A smartphone or tablet with a camera
  • Your device should be charged and in working order
  • Access to your email or messaging apps (if available) for sharing photos

  • This is a hands-on course with a combination of demonstrations and practical activities to help build confidence
  • You will learn by taking photos, organising your photo library, editing images, and sharing them with others
  • Please ensure you are comfortable sharing a photo during class activities
  • Basic privacy and safety considerations when sharing photos and videos will also be covered

How to Enrol

Step 1 - Choose Your Course

  • Select the non-accredited short course you are interested in.
  • Find a day and time that suits your schedule.

Note: Enrolment is open to anyone 18 years or older.

Step 2 - Enrol and Verify

  • Click ‘Enrol Now’ after selecting your course and schedule.
  • Enter your details on the enrolment page.
  • Verify your email through a secure link sent to your email address.
  • Complete the secure checkout and payment process.

Step 3 - Receive Your Enrolment Details

  • For Online Zoom classes, a Zoom link and password will be emailed the day before class. Use the same link and password for subsequent sessions if applicable.
