Our Fruit and Vegetable Carving and Garnishing course is designed to help you showcase your culinary creations in a visually stunning, imaginative, and mouth-watering way.
Throughout this course, you’ll acquire practical skills and techniques to craft breathtaking fruit and vegetable centerpieces.
You will be amazed at how you can master these skills, enabling you to craft attractive plate settings and, at more advanced levels, truly impressive table centerpieces. You’ll learn safe knife techniques to carve a variety of shapes, including leaves, roses, lilies, swans, and fruit baskets.

What you will learn
Course outline
In this course you will learn carving and garnishing techniques for example:
- Carving watermelons into fruit baskets
- Carving carrots into leaves
- Carving zucchinis into roses
- Carving apples into swans
- Carving fennel into calla lilies
- How to hold a carving knife
- How to preserve fruits and vegetables
Course outcome
By the end of the course, students will have learned techniques to creatively and confidently carve fruits and vegetables into delicate patterns and flowers for use as garnishes, fruit platters, and decorations.
What you need to know
Entry requirements
No prerequisites required. This class is suitable for beginners to advanced carvers.
Students must be able to satisfy basic carving techniques including correctly holding carving knives and completing various carving to proceed to more advanced and delicate forms of carving.
What you need to provide
- A chopping board
- One of the classes will require students to bring their own watermelon to carve into a fruit basket (to be advised the class before)
Other information
- The carving knife at the first class is $10
- If students wish to purchase the entire carving set (including 80 additional knives and carving tools the cost is $80)
- The teacher will provide the fruit for each class (except for the watermelon). At the end of each class the cost of the fruit is split between the students (usually $4-5 dollars each student).
