Course Overview

Learn the foreign language that is the most commonly spoken in the world – Chinese Mandarin!

With over a billion people speaking the language, Chinese Mandarin is China’s official dialect.

You will learn popular greetings and expressions, numbers, dates and times, hobbies and interests, as well as Chinese pronunciation & the different intonations required.

This introductory course is for absolute beginners and assumes no prior knowledge.

By the course’s conclusion, you’ll have the skills to engage in basic conversations in Mandarin, bolstered by increased confidence in pronunciation and the ability to distinguish between the five tones used in the language.

What you will learn

Course outline

In this course your will learn:

  • Chinese pronunciation & the different intonation
  • Chinese pinyin and its rules (Chinese phonetic alphabet)
  • Greetings and other useful expressions eg. Asking for names of others, thank you and good-bye, etc.
  • Self-introduction and introducing people
  • Nationalities
  • Talk about families
  • Numbers
  • Dates and time
  • Hobbies and interests

Course outcome

By the end of the course, you will be able to have a basic conversation in Mandarin and have more confidence in pronouncing and distinguishing between the 5 different tones used in Mandarin.

Entry requirements

This level is for the complete beginner and assumes no prior knowledge of the language.

  • All course material is provided and inclusive with course fees
  • Notepad and pen

Other information

This course may not be suitable for learners who have a Chinese background and knowledge or language competency in a different Chinese dialect, eg. Cantonese. If in doubt, please contact the tutor for an assessment prior to the session.

  • Select the non-accredited short course you are interested in.
  • Find a day and time that suits your schedule.

Note: Enrolment is open to anyone 18 years or older.

Step 2 - Enrol and Verify

  • Click ‘Enrol Now’ after selecting your course and schedule.
  • Enter your details on the enrolment page.
  • Verify your email through a secure link sent to your email address.
  • Complete the secure checkout and payment process.

Step 3 - Receive Your Enrolment Details
