Course Overview

Discover the beauty of harp music in a fun and welcoming environment.

Strings of Joy is a beginner-friendly harp class designed for everyone—whether you’re retired, a stay-at-home parent, a music enthusiast, or simply looking for a new hobby. No prior musical experience is needed! This relaxed and supportive class will introduce you to the basics of harp playing in an enjoyable group setting. Instruments are provided—just bring your curiosity and love for music.

Using 15- to 26-string lever harps, you’ll learn fundamental techniques, music reading skills, and ensemble playing. Each session combines hands-on practice with essential music theory to help you build confidence, coordination, and creativity.

The course wraps up with an optional group mini-performance—a chance to share your progress and experience the joy of making music together.

In this course, students will be learn to:

  • Identify and understand the basic structure and mechanics of the harp
  • Read simple sheet music and play basic melodies
  • Understand composition in abstract landscapes
  • Develop correct posture and finger technique
  • Perform simple pieces confidently in a group setting
  • Gain foundational musical skills, including rhythm and ear training

Course outcome

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Understand the parts and function of the harp
  • Demonstrate basic playing techniques and proper form
  • Read and interpret beginner-level sheet music
  • Play simple two-handed harp pieces
  • Perform in an ensemble with others
  • Develop rhythm, listening, and coordination skills

  • A folder for music handouts
  • Pencil and eraser
  • Water bottle (optional)

  • All harps will be provided during class by the instructor.

How to Enrol

Step 1 - Choose Your Course

  • Select the non-accredited short course you are interested in.
  • Find a day and time that suits your schedule.

Note: Enrolment is open to anyone 18 years or older.

Step 2 - Enrol and Verify

  • Click ‘Enrol Now’ after selecting your course and schedule.
  • Enter your details on the enrolment page.
  • Verify your email through a secure link sent to your email address.
  • Complete the secure checkout and payment process.

Step 3 - Receive Your Enrolment Details

  • For Online Zoom classes, a Zoom link and password will be emailed the day before class. Use the same link and password for subsequent sessions if applicable.
