Elizabeth’s Journey: Business and Hospitality Training for Confidence and Careers

At Macquarie Community College (MCC), our trainers do more than just teach — they help people transform their lives through skills, support, and belonging. One of those inspiring educators is Elizabeth Smyth, our Lead Trainer in Business and Hospitality, whose passion for people and practical learning is making a lasting impact.

Business and Hospitality Courses That Empower and Inspire

For Elizabeth, Macquarie Community College isn’t just a workplace – it’s home.

“MCC has been and will be my favourite workplace in all my years!” she says. “The community, the people, and the students all contribute to this.”

What gets her out of bed every morning?

“I look forward to being around my team and colleagues. We enjoy our days and working together — coming to work is fun!”

The Business and Hospitality courses are designed to do more than teach job-ready skills. They’re about helping students build confidence, form friendships, and see a future full of possibilities.

“I hope every student walks away feeling welcomed and encouraged – and with new skills that help them move forward,” she shares.

As a trainer, Elizabeth draws strength and inspiration from her Christian faith and her deep desire to uplift others.

“I get great reward when someone feels encouraged and welcomed into our community,” she says.

Creating Real-World Learning Experiences

Elizabeth has been part of many memorable moments during her time at MCC – but a few stand out. One of her favourite memories is a Christmas dinner her class hosted at Mount Druitt, creating a special day for the local community. Another highlight was leading a “Ready Steady Cook” session during Adult Learners Week – combining fun, food, and learning.

These experiences reflect what makes MCC unique, according to Elizabeth.

“We’re focused on community, we work in a fabulous environment, and we’re committed to doing the best by our students,” she says. “We also provide that extra support when it’s needed most.”

With smaller class sizes and a caring approach, MCC’s hospitality and business training is hands-on, flexible, and built for adult learners of all backgrounds. Whether you’re returning to study or preparing for work, our courses are designed to meet you where you are — and help you grow.

Since joining the College, Elizabeth has seen big changes: new campuses, new people, and steady growth in course offerings. She’s excited about the future too.

“In the next five years, my team and I hope to grow the Hospitality section and continue expanding in Business,” she says. “Our goal is to help more students achieve their education and career goals.”

For 75 years, MCC has been a trusted part of the community – offering opportunities to learn, connect, and succeed. Elizabeth is proud to play her part in that legacy.
