At Macquarie Community College, we believe learning English is more than just mastering grammar or vocabulary – it’s about building confidence, community, and new opportunities. No one understands this better than Geetali Krishnasamy, our dedicated Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Program Manager, who has been shaping lives through English courses for over a decade at Macquarie Community College (MCC).
English Courses that Inspire Confidence and Connection
Geetali says the best part of her job is simple – the people.
“Working with motivated students and a wonderful team of teachers is enough to get me out of bed every morning,” she shares.
Every day, she meets learners looking to improve their English skills, build confidence, find jobs, and change their lives.
She knows that all students leave her courses feeling empowered and ready for employment or further study.
“I want them to feel confident, motivated, and able to express themselves in English,” she explains.
With over 10 years of experience in managing and coordinating LLN programs, Geetali brings strong educational leadership and professional insight to every course.

One of her proudest moments has been witnessing students’ progress from beginner English classes to further education or employment.
“It’s incredibly rewarding to see working students join evening Zoom classes and gain fluency and confidence in English from the comfort of their home,” she says.
A perfect example is Esther Cheng, who turned to English learning after the sudden loss of her husband. Alone in Sydney and far from her birthplace in Hong Kong, Esther found comfort and purpose in an Intermediate English class.
“I had nothing to do. I needed to find myself again,” Esther shares. “I saw the English courses at MCC. They were short, flexible, and nearby. It was the perfect place to start.”
Through her class, Esther didn’t just improve her English, she also found community, connection, and belonging. Her story is a touching reminder of the power of language to heal and transform.
What Makes English Learning at Macquarie Community College Unique?
According to Geetali, the key difference is the focus on the learner.
“Smaller class sizes and dedicated teachers allow students to thrive and reach their goals,” she says.
Over her 11+ years at the College, Geetali has seen many positive transformations. These include new campuses, going digital, and reducing paper use across classes. She also highlights the growth of Gateway Community High – an initiative of MCC – as an exciting milestone.
But the most powerful impact? The thousands of students who’ve walked through the doors and left with stronger English, renewed motivation, and real-world confidence.
Funded programs like ACE, Smart and Skilled, and SEE Program have played a major role in expanding access to English learning for all.
“These programs have helped us reach people from all walks of life,” says Geetali.
Looking ahead, she hopes to see even more: more campuses, more collaboration with other colleges, and more funding for new and existing English courses.
