Child Care and Aged Care courses graduates at Macquarie Community College

Graduation Celebration – A Milestone for Our Certificate III Students

We recently celebrated the graduation of our students from the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care and Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability) courses at Canterbury City Community Centre, Lakemba. It was a joyful evening, with students and their families coming together to acknowledge an important achievement.

For many, this was their first time studying in Australia. Their beaming smiles reflected the pride they felt — not just in achieving a nationally recognised qualification, but in overcoming challenges, building friendships, and taking a big step toward future employment.

The outcome reflects participation in quality life-long learning is transformational and creates stronger communities through the power of learning and connection.

“The wonderful teaching and leadership team at Macquarie Community College recognise the difficulties and barriers facing some students that are studying for the first time and make every effort together with our own Canterbury City Community Centre staff to welcome and engage them and help them feel culturally safe. This has led to incredible course completion outcomes,” reflects Kate Maclean, Manager – Community Sector and Capacity Building, Canterbury City Community Centre

This celebration was also a testament to the success of the partnership between Macquarie Community College and Canterbury City Community Centre. Together, we provide culturally safe, flexible, and inclusive classes that support students from migrant and refugee backgrounds to thrive.

Belinda Zoeller, Community Services Trainer at Macquarie Community Collage shared: “We celebrated a remarkable group of 13 students who have shown extraordinary strength, compassion, and determination. Completing a Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability) is no small feat, especially for those learning in a second language and for some stepping into the workforce for the very first time.

They completed 120 hours of placement and provided care and person-centred support in both ageing and disability. Many students overcame language barriers, self-doubt, and fear of the unknown while juggling family and other commitments. Their hard work, late nights and long days proved that with effort and support anything is possible. It is a symbol of persistence, growth, and the power of never giving up as they embraced every lesson. They are not just beginning careers, they are becoming the compassionate support our community deserves and they are ready to make a real difference in the lives of others.”

Strong Support, Inspiring Outcomes

Our students have completed their studies with resilience, commitment, and passion. Many had no previous experience studying or working in Australia, making their success even more meaningful. They leave the course not only with knowledge and skills but with renewed confidence, connection, and purpose.

We also celebrate the dedication of our trainers, who have walked alongside students on this journey.

“Working in partnership with the fabulous team at Macquarie Community College is an absolute pleasure. It enables our community centre to deliver flexible classes, where students from migrant and refugee communities are supported to take those first critical steps on their settlement journey to realising their study and career ambitions and we look forward to the next round of classes! ‘’ says Kate Maclean, Manager – Community Sector and Capacity Building for Canterbury City Community Centre.

At Macquarie Community College, we are incredibly proud of what these students have achieved. We thank them for their commitment and congratulate them on this important milestone. We can’t wait to see what they’ll do next!
