For over a decade, Heather Hill has been an inspiring presence at Macquarie Community College (MCC) through her leadership, passion, and deep commitment to student success. As Lead Trainer for Community Services courses, she brings more than just knowledge to the classroom – she brings her heart.
A Role Driven by Purpose
When asked what gets her out of bed in the morning, Heather’s answer is beautifully simple:
“The sun rising.”
However, her purpose goes far beyond that. A desire to empower others drives Heather the most. Above all Heather sees her role as a chance to create lasting change in both students’ lives and the communities they will serve.
“The main thing I hope students gain is a real compassion for caring for our elderly and people living with a disability. A deep understanding of person-centred care, and employment where they are fulfilled and satisfied.”
Furthermore, Heather’s teaching goes beyond the textbook. She helps students develop empathy, respect, and a true appreciation for every individual’s dignity and rights. Her experience in the field, combined with a student-focused approach, ensures graduates are not just job-ready – but emotionally and ethically prepared for the demands of the sector.

Leading With Empathy, Experience, and Heart
Heather’s values and lived experience form the foundation of her strengths. She believes in lifelong learning, inclusivity, and the power of person-centred practice – principles she lives by as both a trainer and leader of Community Services courses.
“I believe strongly in modelling the same person-centred values we teach – treating every student with respect, valuing their input, and encouraging their growth.”
Her approach is enriched by:
- A passion for empowering others
- Deep empathy and compassion
- Strong industry experience
- A commitment to clear communication and active listening
These strengths have helped her guide hundreds of students through their study journey -especially those facing barriers or returning to education.
Unforgettable student stories have filled Heather’s time at MCC. One that stands out is of a profoundly hearing-impaired student who graduated with a Certificate III in Individual Support. This student not only thrived in class with the support of Auslan interpreters but also completed her placement in a facility where sign language was used. She now works with deaf participants in Blacktown and was named Community Advocate of the Year at the Blacktown City Council’s International Day of People with Disability Awards.
Another inspiring story is that of Sister Therese, who came to Sydney after years of missionary and teaching work in India and Africa. With a heart for helping others, she enrolled in the CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability) at Macquarie Community College. Sister Therese also took a Basic Computer class to build digital skills and improve her confidence in using technology.
“I’ve learned a lot about aged care and how to support older people. I feel more confident now, especially with English and using a computer,” she shares.

Now working as an aged care support worker, Sister Therese continues to serve her community and plans to pursue a Certificate IV in the near future.
What Sets Macquarie Community College’s Community Services courses Apart
According to Heather, the College’s success lies in its practical, student-focused approach.
“We prepare learners for real-world roles in community services, aged care, and disability support – not just academically, but emotionally and ethically.”
MCC works closely with local providers to ensure training meets sector needs and provides meaningful placement opportunities. Small class sizes, tailored support, and a culture of belonging make it a place where every learner is seen and supported.
Looking Ahead
In the next five years, Heather hopes to make MCC’s programs even more accessible, particularly for underrepresented groups – including people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and people with disability.
“I want to build stronger partnerships with local services, so students gain real-world experience and clear employment pathways.”
A Legacy of Empowerment
As Macquarie Community College celebrates 75 years, Heather reflects on its long-standing role in transforming lives.
“The College has trained thousands who are now essential frontline workers in our communities. It has always been a place for second chances – for people to learn, grow, and succeed.”
We’re proud to have leaders like Heather who bring warmth, wisdom, and an unwavering commitment to education that changes lives.
