Macquarie Community College recently welcomed the community to its Seniors Week celebration at the Epping campus, bringing together more than 100 participants for a day of creativity, movement, and learning.
The event offered a variety of free taster classes and demonstrations, giving visitors the opportunity to explore new interests, meet like-minded people, and experience the welcoming learning environment MCC is known for.
Every year Seniors Week at MCC is designed to celebrate curiosity and lifelong learning while creating connections within the community.
A Day of Learning, Creativity and Wellbeing
Throughout the day, classrooms were filled with energy as participants enjoyed a wide range of activities prepared by MCC tutors. From creative workshops to wellbeing sessions and digital skills classes, there was something for everyone.
Our participants had the chance to try activities such as:
- Computers for Seniors
- Dance classes
- Fruit and Vegetable Carving and Garnishing
- Paper Flowers workshops
- Pilates for Seniors
- Table Tennis
- Watercolour Thought Boxes
- Learning Canva and so many others
These short sessions allowed participants to experience different courses and discover new hobbies in a relaxed and supportive setting. The event encouraged seniors to step outside their comfort zones, try something new and explore the wide range of learning opportunities available at MCC.
Paper Flowers Workshop – A Special Highlight
One of the most popular sessions of the day was the Paper Flowers workshop, beautifully organised by Denise from MCC’s Customer Service team.

Denise brought her own hand-made paper flowers to the campus and guided participants through the process of creating their own colourful floral arrangements. The workshop quickly filled with laughter, creativity and conversation as participants carefully crafted their flowers and shared ideas with one another.
The session perfectly captured the spirit of Seniors Week — learning something new in a relaxed and welcoming environment while connecting with others.
Words of Gratitude from Participants
Many participants shared kind words and feedback after the event, expressing how much they appreciated the opportunity to try new activities and connect with the community.
Some participants commented:
“Thank you for organising such a wonderful event. It was so enjoyable to try different activities and meet new people.”
“The workshops were fantastic and the atmosphere was so welcoming. I’m looking forward to coming back for a course.”
Feedback like this is incredibly meaningful for the MCC team and reinforces the importance of providing accessible learning opportunities for the community.
Building Community Through Learning
While the classes themselves were a highlight, many participants said the most rewarding part of the day was the chance to connect with others. New friendships were formed as people learned side by side, shared ideas and enjoyed the welcoming atmosphere across the campus.
Events like Seniors Week highlight the important role community education plays in helping people stay active, curious and socially connected. Learning together not only builds new skills but also strengthens community ties.
