Tai Chi and Qigong – Intermediate

Course Overview

Tai Chi and Qigong (pronounced chee-goong) are ancient Chinese practices which utilise slow and deliberate movements and breathing techniques to encourage harmony in your body.

This course builds on knowledge and techniques gained in the tai chi & qi gong for beginners course. In this course, the students will progress to learn a new tai chi standard routine known as “bafa wubu” (eight methods – five steps) and will learn the qigong sequence called “wu xin qi” (five animals).

Tai Chi routines are sequences of smooth and flowing movements that promote health benefits that could lead to a harmonious balance of mind and body. Because of that, sometimes tai chi is called “meditation in motion”. Research has shown that the long-established practice of tai chi is a fantastic form of exercise that can develop muscular strength, improve circulation, boost immune functioning, increase vitality, while working on flexibility and improving coordination and balance.

Combined with qigong which focuses on using breathing, posture, movement and/or sound to cleanse, refine, accumulate and circulate energy in the body, it is recognised as a method that can improve overall health and fitness.

Benefits of practicing tai chi and qi gong can include better resistance to disease, preventing imbalances and dysfunctions and development of a clear, tranquil state of mind that helps to reduce stress.

Participants will be encouraged to incorporate the routines that they will be learning into their daily activities.
