Course Overview

Books are a thing of the past. Join the future. Learn to read using Kindle where many books are free. If you read but don’t know anything about Kindles, then this course is for you:

Kindle has many advantages over traditional books allowing you to carry an entire library in your hands, access numerous classic books for free, and acquire a new book within minutes, regardless of your location.

If you have a smartphone, or better yet a tablet, then you can get started straight away! We will guide you through the process of acquiring and enjoying books in the digital realm.

Becoming familiar with Kindle and how to acquire new books can take a little bit of practice. But when you are ready, you will find the Kindle very rewarding. Join us as we explore Kindle!

In this workshop, you will learn:

  • The basics of electronic books using Kindle
  • How to acquire and read Kindle books

Course outcome

After this workshop, you should be able to:

  • Read a Kindle book
  • Understand the similarities and differences between traditional books and how these map to the Kindle
  • Set up an Amazon account
  • Search for and acquire Kindle books
  • Install the Kindle application on a tablet or smartphone
  • Learn why you might want a Kindle e-reader

What you need to know

Entry requirements

This course is for the complete beginner and assumes no prior knowledge.

Prerequisite: Essential

Participants must be over 60 years old. Tech Savvy Seniors is an initiative of the NSW Ageing Strategy and is funded in partnership between the NSW Government and Telstra.

What you need to provide

You will need:

  • An internet-connected PC or laptop and a tablet or smartphone. Until you have your own, you may need to share with others in the workshop
  • An existing Apple account (or Apple ID) if you want to download the Kindle app to your iPad or iPhone smartphone

How to Enrol

Step 1 - Choose Your Course

  • Select the non-accredited short course you are interested in.
  • Find a day and time that suits your schedule.

Note: Enrolment is open to anyone 18 years or older.

Step 2 - Enrol and Verify

  • Click ‘Enrol Now’ after selecting your course and schedule.
  • Enter your details on the enrolment page.
  • Verify your email through a secure link sent to your email address.
  • Complete the secure checkout and payment process.

Step 3 - Receive Your Enrolment Details

  • You will receive an immediate enrolment confirmation email upon successful enrolment. Check and read the attached Terms and Conditions.

  • You will receive a course reminder email a day before your class begins.
  • For Online Zoom classes, a Zoom link and password will be emailed the day before class. Use the same link and password for subsequent sessions if applicable.
