How to Use QR Codes

Everywhere we go nowadays, we are being asked to ‘check in’ to businesses by scanning a QR code. But you may have wondered what QR codes are, how they work and what information is being sent and stored?

In this course, you will learn all about QR codes and why businesses are using them now. You will also learn about the safety of QR codes and what data is being sent and stored. By the end of the course, you will know how to use your phone to scan a QR code, what to do if it doesn’t work and what to do if you are scanning a QR code in another state or country.

This course is a free informal program to assist seniors (50+ yrs old) to become more digitally literate and computer savvy.

In this workshop, you will learn:

  • are there alternatives to QR codes?

Which phones can process a QR code?

  • Not all phones that have a camera that will recognise a QR code
  • Which phones work and which don’t?
  • What can you do if your phone can’t read the QR code?

QR code data

  • Where does your QR code data go?
  • Is it safe to scan a QR code?
  • How long is this data kept?
  • How do you scan a QR code in another state or country?
  • Learn to create your own QR code that points to a specific website
  • Learn about QR code alternatives
